Here is a new house set high on a shoulder mountain looking southeast to the Blue Ridge that is designed to appear as a series of smaller structures that had been adjoined to create a single house. The owners, having lived in the western part of the U.S., were fascinated with this idea, and so a high-desert sensibility was transplanted to the Roanoke mountains. The weathered wood siding adds to the effect of age and a repurposed sensibility. The red barn end of the house contains a music studio and performance space that is the envy of any garage rocker.
